Compassionate Veterinary End-of-Life Care

At Cherry Creek Veterinary Hospital, we are more than a team of pet doctors. We are pet owners, excited to go home at the end of the day to our own happy tails. So we completely understand how heartbreaking it is to face end-of-life decisions.

Just as we offer tender care during your pets' youthful days, we stand ready to extend our support and compassion as you navigate the poignant journey of end-of-life care. As partners in nurturing your pet's well-being, we remain steadfast in guiding you through this profound phase. We understand that these choices are incredibly difficult, but we promise to be there every step of the way, not only offering our veterinary expertise but also the empathy and understanding that these delicate moments deserve.

How Do I Know When It's Time?

Navigating the end-of-life journey is a challenging and emotional time, but it is our greatest responsibility as pet owners to ensure the health and comfort of our furry family members. Signs that it might be time to have an end-of-life discussion are:

  • Your pet has become lethargic
  • Your pet has a loss of appetite
  • Your pet has difficulty with bathroom habits
  • Your pet is experiencing severe pain or mobility issues

In such moments, our compassionate team of veterinarians and staff steps in to conduct a comprehensive examination with utmost care. Our goal is not just to guide you through this process, but to help you make the best decision for your cherished pet's quality of life, while ensuring their comfort and well-being remain at the forefront.

What to Expect

When you have come to the difficult decision to say goodbye, we will provide you with a private and calm space to spend your final moments with your furry family member. As part of the euthanasia process, we encourage you to take as much time as you need, and when you are ready to proceed, our veterinarian will insert an IV catheter. We will first inject a sedative to relax your pet and make them feel peaceful and sleepy. After the final medication as administered, your pet will drift off to sleep and cross over the rainbow bridge.

Cherry Creek Veterinary Hospital can help with aftercare arrangements such as burial and cremation to minimize your stress.

Our pets deserve a comfortable end, and we will help you honor the bond you have with your pet with empathy and dignity. Call us to discuss your options regarding end-of-life care.
